I estimate each job for time and materials, but I don’t provide quotes (that is, a set fee for a project). In the handyman business, unforeseeable things often occur. For example, removing flooring to discover the subflooring has rotted and needs replacement, or finding mold inside a wall that needs mitigation. I will estimate your job based on what I can see at the time of the estimate, and discuss any additional costs as unforeseen issues arise.
I charge for time and materials on a sliding scale from $50 to $40 an hour as detailed below. Jobs requiring more hours are charged at the lower end of the scale. Costs of projects vary depending on the complexity, the distance I need to travel, and the materials required.
- 1 – 8 hours . . . . . . . . . . . $50.00 per hr.
- 9 – 24 hours. . . . . . . . . . . .$45.00 per hr.
- 25 hours or more . . . . . . . .$40.00 per hr.
On jobs with high material cost estimates, I ask for one-half the total estimate up front. I always provide an estimate for jobs that require a substantial amount of materials.
I make every effort to schedule jobs appropriately, but again, many unexpected things occur in handyman work. I appreciate customers who can be flexible, and I try to be flexible as well. For example, if you have an emergency situation that needs immediate attention, I will try to reschedule other customers to meet your need.
